There are many companies that profit from statistical and personal information gathered. This data is very valuable. Many sites post ratings that are provided by the third parties.
They have a privacy statement stating that they do not reveal anything to the third parties while allowing third parties to access and collect data.
The ratings provided by the third parties are free to the business owner. But Are they ??? Common sense tells you that there is nothing free. You - the customer provide payment in the form of statistical and other data.
We'd applied for BIZ RATErating. When we received E-mail on how to complete registration we were told that we had to paste a code on our shopping cart page linking to their site.
Any one with knowledge of Internet knows that once you allow request (link) to another site information about visitor is revealed to the third party. This is the reason their services are free to the web masters. Many of the companies collect and sell this data.
In the past we were awarded a"site of the day" award, and posted the graphic on our web site to find out the re were four companies collecting information on our visitors. We find our that most of these so called "awards" function the same way. This is the reason we do not post them on our web sites.
